He’s in the details...
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart"
The leaves are starting to change. The pace from summer to fall is one that causes you to slow down. To sip on cider, walk a little slower, soak in a little longer. I love watching the mist from the morning dew twinkle on the leaves in the garden. The sun passes with beams of light through my pink mullys. A morning fire cracks and adds warmth to our hands and our souls. The ducks and geese walk in a straight line to the ridge to forage on water droplets and little flowers that rest on top of the grass, then a short pause to soak in the sun peaking through the forest trees. In the distance the goats voices almost murmur actual words. It’s their call for cuddles and maybe a little alfalfa. Chickens wander the landscape scratching and clucking, reminding me of their dedication to scavenge for food. The dog waits for the scuffles of Dino’s feet coming towards him. He has a certain morning slosh sound that is all too familiar to our house. The dog is ready to hunt and scout out the happenings of the land this new day. We all rise early to participate in the farms daily rhythms. There’s a feeling of purpose and pride. It’s a calming task no one wants to miss out on. Almost like it calls to our souls to tend to it.
Everyone has a roll. Everyone has a purpose. It’s beautiful to be apart of it, to sit back and see God in every single detail.
I shared last week about a pause to prayer and the blessing that poured out afterwards.
While feeling stuck on house renovation decisions, specifically the tile for the whole house. I was overwhelmed and my brain felt broken trying to figure out styles and dimensions for each room. Dino sensed my frustrations and asked, “I know, you know your gifts are from the Lord, but how does it work? Do you pray before you’re making these big decisions?” I paused and thought. Realizing that while I do know that truth and I do invite Him into everything I do, I hadn’t specifically prayed over this decision, let alone any house decision in particular.
We sat and prayed together and I gave it all over to the Lord. Sometimes we just need the reminder to pause and pray. Selah: ‘Sometimes we need to be reminded that everything we do, should be unto the Lord.’
Within a minute or so, as I got back to ordering tile, ideas started pouring in. Visions for rooms started clicking together and within 30 minutes I had every piece of tile ordered. But He didn’t stop there, each room in the house started to come to me, color schemes, texture ideas, layouts…it was all clicking.
How simple a thing to do. But how hard it is to do sometimes.
Whether it be our failure to acknowledge His sovereignty, our unwillingness to release control, business in the chaos that we forget to go to Him or maybe we just don’t think it’s significant enough to lay before Him. (Doesn’t He have more important prayers to answer?)
But He’s in all the details. Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths".
Psalm 37:5 "Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you".
Why do we put limits on an all consuming limitless God? He cares about the big details and the little details. He also desire us to turn towards Him, in everything. Not just the big things, but in the day to day. And especially with who we are and how we live. Everything I have is from Him. Every blessing and every gifting. My identity is in Him and He’s also given me my purpose. It’s my desire to steward these things well. To turn towards Him and ask Him to go before me in everything and in every decision.
It was a much needed reminder in this season of life. We have so many decisions to make, the amount of bumps and mishaps happening along the way could make us crumble, but instead we choose to seek Him and lay it all before Him. If we lay it all before Him and it’s all His, and I am working unto Him, isn’t it ALL my greatest joy… no matter what happens?
It really is my greatest joy. I feel so thankful for the opportunity to be in this role. To steward and build this house He’s blessed us with, to tend to our animals and nurture them, to equip, love and serve my family. When we switch our perspective to one that is reflective on the Lord, in everything, there’s peace there.
This way, I see the Fall farm in all its glory, through His eyes.
