bathroom addition

Jun 20, 2019

All the goods on how we transformed our hall closet into a bathroom.

Our home is just over 1300 sqft with one bathroom. We've been able to handle a family of 5 living with one bathroom for a few years, and Im not gonna say we can't do it. Im just gonna say I am SO happy we don't have to anymore.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Delta Faucet brand. All opinions are 100% mine.

DELTA

One of the biggest bonuses of this bathroom is that I had the privilege of partnering with the Delta Faucet brand. I was even able to go to their headquarters and get a behind-the-scenes tour of the place. I totally nerded out when I came home, raving to Dino about faucets and shower equipment... that’s when you know you've made it as an adult, lol. I was extremely impressed with not only the innovation of the products, but the people behind the company. They believe there is so much insight that comes from human interaction with water, not just adding features for complication, but for our needs and wants! They believe water has the power to transform people’s lives, and Id have to agree! It was fascinating getting a look into how Delta is using new technologies and intricate design strategies to create exceptional products!

It was awesome to see the products first hand. Im a touch and feel kinda person. I went with the Victorian Collection in our bathroom—aclassic look that would tie in well with our old Spanish home. But there were some close seconds for me, the Stryke Bath Collection being another favorite of mine. This collection was a great collaboration of contemporary and traditional. I believe it could fit into most home styles, and you can choose the style, handle and finish that best suits your taste.

All of the faucets and showers have Diamond Seal Technology, which means, theres a reduced chance of leaking and it lasts 10x longer than other leading brands. If Im gonna spend the money, I like to do it one time, so this is huge! Quality my friends! I was also so impressed with the H2Okinetic® Power Drench Spray. Ok I'm so geeking out, but for reals. When they showed us the demo I was shocked at how much coverage their technology gives you in the shower. Because nothin is worse than getting in the shower and barely getting covered with water and feeling cold. They designed this to give you 3x as much coverage in the shower and the feeling of more water without using more water!

I love the In2ition Two-in-One Shower in this sweet Champagne Bronze finish. You can use the head/hand shower combo together or separately, perfect for the kiddos and making the shower easy to clean. Delta has a MagnaTite® Docking which uses a magnet to keep the detached nozzle easily in place and it'll make it easier for the kids to reattach it after they use it, score!

Dino installed these hooks for the kids and we both agreed that they are the sturdiest hooks we've ever owned. This is usually something I skimp on, but never again! These bad boys are solid and locked in place, no kid will pull them down!

TILE

The tile just needed to be good. Ive said it before, but for me adding pops and design to the home is key when designing. Id rather invest in quality pieces and design the actual space rather than adding a bunch of stuff. Quality over quantity. Ive been in love with this Super Star Tile from Riad Tile for a while. I am so happy I was able to incorporate it into this bathroom. That paired with the rustic blush tile just added the perfect little design marriage to that space. We added a simple piece of glass (we are still waiting for a slider piece), but this allows the tile to shine!

CLOSET INTO A BATHROOM

We wanted to add a bathroom without disrupting the house too much. We had just enough space using Quinns closet and our hall closet. We were able to cut into Quinns room about 7 in to give us enough space in the bathroom and keep us up to code. The design was very precise because we had a very specific space that could only accommodate very small pieces. I found a piece of furniture at World Market that I could turn into a vanity by adding a vessel top sink to the top. We opted for an in wall toilet system because it was the only way to fit a toilet in and keep it to code and I have to say Im hooked on that too! So cool to have the toilet floating and to see the tile work underneath. Hoping it makes bathroom cleaning easier!

PRODUCT LIST

COST

Im always happy to share the cost of our projects because I want people to have a realistic expectation. With any project, it's always smart to add on an extra 10% if not more, for incidentals. With the cost of tile, tile work, drywall work, plumbing, electrical, installation, and trim work, the cost for a bathroom addition like this would be 8-10k. Of course doing any of that work yourself is going to cut your cost down. I also chose a higher end tile which added a bit to the cost. Although in my opinion its worth it for the wow factor. If you didn't need to move walls out like we did too, that would cut the cost I'm sure as well. With any jobs like this, whether you hire a contractor or handy men, I always highly recommend watching with a close eye. Every job I do really requires me to have all hands on deck with each worker to make sure things are running smoothly and on time.

Now that we have our extra bathroom, you know what that means?! Time to renovate our master bathroom!! Stay tuned for that one!
