our basement remodel

Not every day you see a basement in Cali! This project kinda turned from me having a little bit of a bad attitude, to being a really fun challenge. This space didn’t really excite me, mostly because I was being selfish knowing I’d never really use it. But I changed my attitude and started thinking about Dino and what he would want! My man deserves my full efforts and so much more! Plus the basement definitely needed a face lift…

A few months ago, I mentioned Modsy to you all on Instagram. It’s a design service that really just makes life easier when designing a space. It can be overwhelming even knowing where to begin when working on a room, let alone your whole house. Many of you had already heard about it and loved it. And many of you were just as interested in it as I was, which made me really excited to give it a whirl! While I do have the ability to design a room on my own, I was really curious if this process was really worth it and I wanted to be able to share that experience back with you! So I connected with Modsy about using their design services for the basement.

The process was so simple! I actually did it all on my phone, which I love because I don’t love having to pull my laptop out. I measured the space, filled out a fun Modsy Design quiz which helped the designer see where my vision was. I actually found this quiz super helpful, even for myself. It was kind of an insight into my own design brain, so this feature would be a huge help for someone who is looking to figure out what their style is.

As you can see we added drywall and a door to access the furnace. And this is essentially how I started the design process, just a blank slate, (my favorite).

I received two room designs, fully equipped with paint color options, 360 view of the room, and a link to each product in the room. Knowing the feel of the basement, I ended up going with Design 1.

I loved the black and white color pallet, the configuration of the corner desk (gotta keep Dino happy), and how they incorporated warmth with some wood accents. However; I did pull a few things from Design 2. I loved the pop of black they used and wanted to keep our wood shiplap wall natural wood. I loved how Modsy was quick to hear my revisions and how fast the accommodated. It’s like they were reading my mind! This was what they came back with and it was the perfect combo!

And here is where I ended up!

I ended up incorporating the black on the ceilings to give the ceiling a non existent dramatic look, as well as painting the door, trim and all the hardware matte black! I LOVE this gingham wallpaper that I grabbed at Target to bring the whole room together and make it extra cozy.

While I didn’t purchase any of the items directly from the Modsy site, I did love that it was an option! I found this print at Target and really just fell in love with the raw wood look here.

I got pretty lucky with an existing bench we had, I mean it couldn’t have been ¼ of an inch bigger or it wouldn’t have fit! And of course no man cave is complete without a bar, so we opted for bar shelfie. Just a spot Dino could feature his favorite whiskey. These shelves are space savers too instead of a full bar cart.
I’m happy to report back to you all that Dino is extremely happy with his “bat cave”! Wifey points for sure! I’m so glad I changed my attitude and made this space special for him.
Modsy has given me a promo code for any of you that are wanting to try it out! Use code ARROWS20 for 20%off a design package (not including Luxe package) valid through 11/30.
