New Year, New Habits

New Year, New Habits

I feel like after a year like 2020, everyone took an extra week to ease into the New Year. So, I officially deem this the start of 2021!

Dino and I took last week to get away with just Foxi girl - we drove down the coast, we talked about dreams and plans and habits we want to take into this new year and beyond. It was beyond perfect and it was just what we needed to refresh. We truly feel like it was just what we needed and now we are ready to dive into what’s to come.

I have a hard time using the word ‘goal’ because I think it sometimes has a negative connotation. If you don’t achieve ‘this’, you didn’t reach 'this’ and it puts a lot of pressure on us! We are human!

So, Dino and I like to create new healthy ‘habits’ each year. We started this a couple of years ago, and it worked for us. They are more of ‘positive changes’ or adjustments that we can make together to set ourselves up for other positive changes throughout life! This year we want to focus on our mind, body and marriage which in turn work all together beautifully. If you have a strong mind, body and marriage, you can really pinpoint other aspects of your life that may need adjustments too.

Here are our habits we are adapting for the New Year! I am sure more will come up, throughout the next 365 days and that’s ok! Welcomed even! I think by creating new habits, you’re setting yourself up for success!

Cleaner Eating: Not a diet, no no no. A lot of others start a diet around the first of the year, and most feel a lot of pressure to lose weight for a scale. But what about just eating cleaner so you FEEL better? I have been starting small - beginning my day with simple oats. Oats have so many hidden gems of health, plus they keep me powered throughout the day. Oats are expected to reduce the risk of heart disease; lower blood sugar and possibly help with weight loss. Steel cut oats or rolled oats have a low glycemic index so they give you a longer lasting energy for the day. Just a super simple change but it starts my day off right and jumpstarts my decisions for the remainder of the day!

Walking: Have you ever NOT felt better after a walk? I think not. Getting outside for even just 10 minutes, feeling the air on your face and maybe workin’ up a little sweat has healing powers, I just know it. Dino and I have some of our very best talks on our walks! It’s therapeutic and allows you to focus on one thing at a time, or even just be with your thoughts in private. I have worked through problems or prayed on hardships so many times on a walk. I promise, just start.

Quiet time: This can mean so many things! Taking time away from my phone has truly been life changing. We all need a break from social media at times, so just unplugging is so good for your soul! Quiet time can also mean reading a book, washing dishes in peace, listening to music, walking (always a good one!)...anything to turn your mind off so it can properly reset!

Read More: Our book comes out next year and although we are still in the trenches of the editing process, it’s not lost on us the excitement of it all! With that said, I love a good book, and I want to prioritize reading because it brings me joy! This isn’t like the pressure of ‘I want to read 365 books this year’ - but just being open to spending more time reading, however many pages that may be.

Brighten someone’s day. How easy it is to just send a quick text or phone call or maybe slide into a friends Dms online. With all the junk we receive everyday I want to be hopefully one adding a positive note to someones day.

Start With One: This can also mean many things! Focus on one thing, simplify your processes, tick things off your list as they come in. I also live for the design aspect of ‘start with one’ and hope to make it more of a habit when working on projects this year (there are so many!)

I hope this year brings you joy, hope, blessings and happiness! And thank you for being here for so much of our journey! So much more fun to come in 2021!
