Guest Bathroom Makeover

Our guest house bath had a quick little makeover all done with just paint and new sconces! And she turned out so cute - and it's now the HQ for The Fox Mercantile!

This space has been home to some of our friends and family since we moved in, but it never felt fully finished or cozy. The walls throughout our whole house are shiplap, which I love, but I was craving something different for this guest bath. I thought a pattern would be fun, and plaid didn’t seem too hard to paint, so I went for it. And I Iove how it turned out! It just pops and makes the whole room seem custom and I love that.

I kept this super simple by using the horizontal lines of my shiplap as the horizontal lines in my plaid pattern. Then for the vertical lines, I just measured out the spacing and made sure the tape was hanging straight on the wall and used that as my guide. After the lines were painted I went back through the intersections and made them slightly darker to add a little more depth. Just a little paint bloop in the seam of the wall and it looks more plaid-y. And that’s it! Super simple!

You’ll notice that I painted the vanity too! It wasn’t planned, but once I got the idea in my head, I just had to do it. I think it adds a nice contrast to the rest of the white on the walls. To save even more and use what I already had, I spray painted the drawer pulls and the faucet gold.

For the sconces, I found these ones and they have such a fun shape to them. I really liked them, but wasn’t feeling the black velvet around the edges, so I took some white paint to go over them and ended up with this cool olive green color. This was definitely a go with the flow project, where I just did what came to me. But I guess that’s how most of my projects are anyways, and it usually w orks out in the end, which is rewarding and keeps my creative juices flowing!

Voilá, we have an updated unique bathroom on a budget - I think this place is going to call out to guests 'come stay here' and we will gladly host! xx
