Planning A Wedding On A Budget

My niece is married! It was a perfect day for two amazing humans. It was beautiful...and? All planned on a budget! We had the best time prepping for the big day, but also so fun to do it alongside family.
I pulled together my tips for planning a wedding [ or any event! ] with a budget in mind...and sharing some pics from their special day!
Dig a little for glassware:  If you are in need of glassware for centerpieces and decor, thrift stores or home goods - even the dollar spot! - are a great place to source jars and vases for super inexpensive.
Thrift stores and garage sales are your friends:  We found everything from decor to signage to serving dishes to vases for the centerpieces...so much of what we added as personal touches were from thrift stores and garage sales! Plus! The search for goodies is sooo fun!

DIY decor:  Dive into your crafty side and take on simpler projects like signs or name cards yourself - I’ve recently seen watercolor place cards and they were so pretty! What a fun way to add a touch of personalization.
Make your own bouquets:  Consider getting flowers and putting together your own bouquets. Here is my tutorial on Foxi’s flowers which could easily be transformed to a bouquet!
Get creative with your centerpieces:  Keep the DIY theme going and make your own centerpieces with flowers or candles. Pinterest is your friend, and it doesn’t have to be overthought to be beautiful!

DIY dessert bar: Skip the fancy wedding cake and put together your own dessert bar. Either pick up some baked goods like cookies and small cakes from a local bakery, or if you’re the baking type, bake them! Extra points if it’s a family recipe you feature!

Make your own food/find your own ‘grill master’ [ aka a Dino ] : A big portion of the budget tends to go towards feeding your guests. Save the price of catering by keeping it simple and making your own food, and keep it buffet style - that way everyone can mingle, even while building their plates.

Buy in bulk: If you do make your own food, stop by a bulk store to pick up everything you need. This can really cut a big cost in half!

Have a friend or family member officiate: Have a family member or friend get ordained online. Not only do you save the cost of the officiant, but it makes the ceremony super special.

Alterations:  If you have the sewing skills, consider making any small alterations on your own! I mean, I made my dress into a strapless look so I could get down on the dance floor! You have to make it work!
Get creative with your venue:  Make it a beach party or borrow a friend's back yard! It offers a super intimate setting and it's free!
Bridal Party:  Keep your bridal party small, everyone you love will be a part of the wedding by being there! Your bridesmaid can “shop” their own closet for a dress, just give them a color scheme to adhere to, and they can wear their own jewelry. Groomsmen can wear suits they already own!

However you create your wedding on a budget, it’s going to be beautiful - trust that! And just remember to focus on the important things, like celebrating together with your family and friends. All the rest is just icing on the cake!
